How we count the market.

Every number in the industry reports is a count of live job adverts. Here is exactly what goes in, what stays out, and what the numbers can and can't tell you.

What we count
Live job adverts posted in the last 30 days, from licensed job-advert data that aggregates company career sites and job boards. Each report shows the date it was counted.
Where
Each city plus the nearby towns that share its candidate pool, listed on every report. Places are matched as whole words, so Bury never counts adverts in Aylesbury.
Which roles
Ten core roles per industry. Each role counts its own title and the related titles employers use for it, such as Site Reliability Engineer under DevOps Engineer. Related titles are refreshed each month, and every report lists exactly which titles it counted.
Counted once
An advert matching several of a role's titles counts once for that role, and once in the industry total however many roles it fits. A title belongs to one role only.
Direct from employer
Adverts the hiring company posted itself, rather than a recruitment agency.
Last 7 days
The share of the month's adverts posted in the most recent week. In an even month it is about 23%; at 28% or more we call hiring accelerating, and at 18% or less, slowing.
Month on month
Compared with the previous edition. Where last month had fewer than 20 adverts we show the two counts rather than a percentage. The first edition of a report is its baseline.
What these are not
Adverts, not vacancies: one vacancy can be advertised by several agencies, and some are never advertised at all. Counts also depend on how employers word their job titles.
Updates
Monthly. Each edition stays online at its own address, such as /industry-reports/tech/london/2026-10, so a figure you quote keeps its source.
Using the figures
You are welcome to quote them, with a link to the report you took them from.
